Befrielsen

Kan vi? Vill vi? Törs vi? Ja, vi kan , vi vill, vi törs!

So goes a line from the song Befrielsen är nära (Liberation is Near), in the classic feminist musical from the 1970s. The song has been a mantra urging me toward courage when I’ve felt uncertain, curiosity when I’ve felt numb, and sisterhood when I’ve felt alone. Later in the song, the lyrics continue: “Och en dag ska barnen säga, tack mödrar det gjorde ni bra! Och en dag ska barnen säga, denna mänskliga värld vill vi ha!” (“And one day the children will say, thank you mothers, you did well! And one day the children will say, this is the human world that we want!”) It is this vision of gratitude across generations, children looking back at the courage of those who came before, that inspired the work as a tribute to the brave mothers who paved the way and stood up for the child’s perspective. It takes both desire and courage to swing out into the unknown. It stirs something in your stomach and shifts our senses and our perspective. Befrielsen activated the impressive airspace of Förbindelsehallen in Slakthusområdet during Korvfabriken’s group exhibition Solfångare in autumn 2025, with its ten-metre radius and accompanying swings.
